CMI & First Energy Foundation Partner to Feed Hungry West Virginians
Community Markets Inc. (“CMI”) is pleased to partner with First Energy Foundation to feed food insecure West Virginians with healthy and fresh food sourced from local farms. “Tom from First Energy took the initiative to contact Community Markets Inc. to learn about our mission and impact and see how First Energy could help,” explained CMI Operations Manager Mark Peiffer.
The $10,000 grant from First Energy Foundation will be used to support CMI’s Food Box Giveaway Program which feeds over 1,000 people monthly at two Giveaways monthly held in the Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands of West Virginia.

“We’re very grateful that First Energy has taken an interest in feeding our community’s vulnerable and underserved families while prioritizing getting funding to our local farmers and food producers,” Peiffer added. With this grant, the energy sector is yet another portion of the local economy that has thrown its support behind growing wealth and wellness in West Virginia with WV-grown food.
“Food insecurity impacts every community where we live and serve. Our neighbors shouldn’t have to choose between affording groceries or providing other basic needs,” said Amanda Mertens Campbell, Vice President, External Affairs. “We are happy to support organizations like Community Markets, Inc. to fight food insecurity.”
