CMI to Host Food Box Giveaway in Boone County on Oct. 20th!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Community Markets Inc. Returns to Whitesville With 150 Free Food Boxes for Boone County Families
Whitesville, WV – October 20, 2026

Community Markets Inc. (“CMI”), a nonprofit based in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, is once again partnering with Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry to bring fresh, locally grown food to families in Boone County. The two organizations will give out 150 food boxes on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Shepherds Heart Food Pantry on Coal River Road in Whitesville.

CMI will arrive with a cold storage trailer full of healthy staples from West Virginia farms, including fresh produce, milk, butter, eggs, cheese, meat, jam, and more.

This is the second year CMI and Shepherds Heart have worked together on Food Giveaways, building on last November’s successful distribution in Whitesville. CMI works to fight food insecurity across West Virginia, with a special focus on coalfield communities where many families still struggle to get enough to eat. Working with trusted local partners like Shepherd’s Heart lets CMI reach residents directly and get food where it’s needed most. Buying from West Virginia farmers also keeps the money in the state’s food economy.

“Shepherd’s Heart Food Pantry has done much good for the people of Boone County. Troy & Pam have big hearts and are great to work with,” said Mark Peiffer, Operations Manager for Community Markets Inc. “CMI is grateful to be coming back to the Whitesville community in support of the mission of Shepherd’s Heart. We hope our fresh, local food makes a real difference for the families they serve.”
