Community Markets Inc. is recruiting four (4) motivated & qualified individuals to serve for a year-long term of service as AmeriCorps VISTA Members!

Join the team of a growing non-profit and jump into the fast-paced and exciting work of growing wealth and wellness for West Virginian families and farmers!
Each service role is full-time (40 hrs/wk) and requires serving on-site or in the field (remote work is not allowed), reliable transportation, and a desire to make a lasting impact on thousands of West Virginians. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or equivalent.
The service year begins on February 9, 2026. Start dates in March or April are also possible.

Compensation & Benefits
Benefits of serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA Member include:
- $24,962/Year Living Allowance.
- End of Service Award (Choose One): Segal Education Award ($7,395) or Cash Award (about $1,800) upon successful completion of term of service.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Ideal CMI AmeriCorps VISTA Candidates…
- should possess a desire to better our community through feeding food insecure families while supporting local farmers.
- will be a self starter who will take initiative and ownership of one’s duties and responsibilities.
- will be comfortable communicating with the general public in a variety of ways and able to represent themselves and the organization in a professional and compelling manner.
- will bring value to the organization daily through soliciting and securing support for CMI, whether monetary or in-kind donations, volunteers, mobile market sales, or other kinds of support.
- will exhibit effective & timely written and verbal communication, both internally with the team and externally to community partners, customers, and vendors.
- will be able to comfortably & safely drive a pick up truck and trailer (training available).
- will have the ability to work within the processes and parameters set by the organization to maximize efficiency and impact.
- will have the ability to adapt and pitch in on projects and programming as need arises.
Job Requirements, Desired Experience, & Duties
Serve your community for the next year with Community Markets Inc. in one of these essential roles:
Job Requirements for All Positions:
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from the office as well as “in the field” for programming around the Eastern Panhandle.
- Must be able to lift at least 30 lbs. and work on one’s feet in all weather conditions for consecutive hours.
- Must be able to work in-office during normal office hours (Monday through Friday 8 am – 4:30 pm) with some, but less frequent, work hours on weekday evenings and weekends.
NO REMOTE WORK – all work will be performed at CMI office or program site. - Must be at least 18 years of age and a U.S. Citizen.
Mobile Markets Coordinator
Desired Experience:
- At least two years of retail and/or customer service experience is desired but not required.
Job Duties:
- Manage and operate all aspects of CMI’s mobile farmers markets, front end and back end
- Recruit, train, and lead volunteers
- Assist with all weekly Market tasks, including:
- Packing orders for market
- Packing market supplies and moving them to and from the market
- Ensuring positive customer support/service
- Placing market orders
- Adding/removing products from the Mobile Markets eCommerce backend
- Acting as vendor liaison
- Work on farmer/vendor outreach & onboarding
- Collaborate with the IT Specialist to update content of e-commerce websites
- Assist as needed with other operational tasks
- Able to safely drive a truck and trailer (training provided)
Local Food Access Coordinator
Desired Experience:
- At least two years of marketing or sales undergraduate study or work experience is desired but not required.
Job Duties:
- Take initiative with community outreach in order to expand food access programs like the Food Box Giveaway Program, Reseller Program, Local Food Backpack Program, and others
- Form new partnerships with food pantries, farmers, producers, local businesses, school systems, local and county governments, and others
- Maintain current partnerships
- Schedule Food Box Giveaways
- Coordinate logistics of all food access programs
- Recruit and manage volunteers for all food access programs
- Create “menu” and order & coordinate food delivery/pickup from farmers/vendors for Food Box Giveaways
- Conduct research for new programs, followed by design and implementation of such programs
- Assist as needed with other operational tasks
- Able to safely drive the truck/trailer (training provided)
IT Specialist
Desired Experience:
- WordPress backend management experience
- WordPress plugin familiarity, especially WooCommerce, IceGram Express, & Elementor
- eCommerce and online retail experience
- At least two years of IT undergraduate study or work experience is desired but not required.
Job Duties:
- CMI & Mobile Markets Website plugin updates & Maintenance
- Website Page Creation
- Routine Content Updates
- Website Security Updates
- Troubleshooting and bug fixes
- Project Research, Design, and Implementation (such as eCommerce multi-site), etc.
- Effective collaboration and interfacing with external IT contractors
- Assist as needed with other operational tasks that may not be IT specific
Communications Specialist
Desired Experience:
- Experience managing an organization’s social media accounts
- At least two years of communications or marketing undergraduate study or work experience is desired but not required.
Job Duties:
- Communicate the story, mission, impact, history, and day to day operations and happenings of Community Markets Inc. through a variety of mediums: photos, short clips and longer edited videos, graphics, flyers, press releases, newsletters, and social media.
- Content creator; CMI’s “personal news reporter”
- Manage CMI’s social media pages
- Write/publish newsletters and social media content and press releases
- Capture photos at events
- Create promotional videos
- Create graphics and flyers
- Design and prepare Annual Report for publication
- Assist as needed with other operational tasks
